Listowel Ontario- The (9)Listowel Cyclones had an impressive weekend in the GOJHL, securing two victories, including a dominant 7-1 win over the (5)London Nationals on Friday, January 10th, and a 4-1 road win against the (15)Waterloo Siskins on Sunday, January 12th.
At the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena, 410 fans witnessed a strong start by the Cyclones. Tate Brenner opened the scoring in the first period at 5:36 with an unassisted goal. In the second period, Colton Henderson added an unassisted goal at 14:51, followed by Chris O’Flaherty’s tally, assisted by Teague Vader and Wylie Birkett. O’Flaherty’s assist marked Vader’s 19th of the season.
The Cyclones continued their strong play in the third period with Jack O’Donnell scoring at 7:18, assisted by Brenner and O’Flaherty. Henderson netted his second of the game at 2:34, assisted by Benson Moore. Jordan Visneskie and Dylan Szymanowski rounded out the scoring. The assists came from Aiden Renaud, Harrison Meulensteen, and Carter Coombs. Goaltender Ethan Kowatsch made 30 saves, earning the victory in net, while Cam McNevan played his 150th career game in the GOJHL.
On Sunday, the Cyclones took their winning streak on the road, defeating the Waterloo Siskins 4-1 at the Waterloo Rec Centre. After the Siskins struck first, O’Flaherty evened the score at 6:32, assisted by Wylie Birkett and Keaton Middleton. In the second period, Henderson and Birkett both found the back of the net, with assists from Nathan Schaap, O’Flaherty, and Teague Vader, who recorded his 20th assist of the season.
Birkett sealed the victory with a goal in the third period at 15:41, assisted by Benson Moore. Kowatsch was solid in goal again, making 18 saves to secure the win.
The Cyclone are now ranked 9th overall in the league with 21-10-1.
