Cyclones jump to 3rd in the Western Division

Listowel, Ont- The (6)Listowel Cyclones have been busy on the ice, playing three games in a span of just five days. From thrilling wins to hard-fought losses, the team has had its share of highs and lows, but there’s no doubt the Cyclones are continuing to show resilience and determination.

January 15th: Cyclones Prevail 4-3 Against (5)London Nationals

The Cyclones began their road trip on a high note with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the London Nationals in London, Ontario. It was an intense game that saw the Cyclones take an early lead and fend off the Nationals’ push throughout.

Jordan Visneski opened the scoring for Listowel, netting the first goal of the game with assists from Colton Henderson and Aiden Renaud. Jack O’Donnell doubled the lead with his goal, set up by Henderson and Teague Vader. The Cyclones’ third goal came courtesy of Avry Anstis, solidifying their position. Goaltender Rilie Arts was stellar in net, making 28 saves to help secure the victory.

The game was a tight affair, but the Cyclones’ quick strikes and strong defense carried them through to the win.

January 17th: Overtime Loss to (2)St. Mary’s Lincolns

The momentum from the London win didn’t quite carry over as the Cyclones suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to the St. Mary’s Lincolns in St. Mary’s, Ontario. It was a hard-fought battle, but the Cyclones couldn’t quite close it out in the extra frame.

Dylan Szymanowski scored the lone goal for Listowel in the first period, a beautiful unassisted effort. The Cyclones would later tie it 2-2 thanks to a powerplay goal from Wylie Birkett, assisted by Chris O’Flaherty. Despite putting up a strong defensive effort, the Cyclones couldn’t hold off the Lincolns in overtime. Goalie Ethan Kowastch was fantastic, making 36 saves, but it wasn’t enough to steal the win.

January 19th: Cyclones Dominate 6-1 in Convincing Win Over the (10)LaSalle Vipers

Back on home ice, the Cyclones turned in a dominant performance with a 6-1 victory over the LaSalle Vipers in front of 503 fans at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena. Listowel’s offense was firing on all cylinders, and they never looked back after taking an early lead. It was a great turn out as the Howick Minor Hockey played a little mini game before puck drop.

Chris O’Flaherty opened the scoring for the Cyclones with an assist from Wylie Birkett and Harrison Meulensteen. It didn’t take long for Dylan Szymanowski to find the back of the net, scoring with help from Ezra Fischer and Trent Harris. Jack O’Donnell added his 10th goal of the season, with assists from Aiden Renaud and Carter Coombs, extending the Cyclones’ lead to 3-0.

The scoring continued with a goal from Jordan Visneski, who was assisted by Cam McNevan and Avry Anstis. Szymanowski netted his second of the night, assisted by Fischer, while Colton Henderson capped the scoring with a powerplay goal, assisted by Renaud and Birkett. In net, Rilie Arts was solid, making 26 saves to preserve the commanding 6-1 win.

Looking Ahead

The Cyclones will be looking to build off this dominant performance when they return to the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena on January 24th to face off against the Strathroy Rockets. With the puck set to drop at 7:30 PM, the Cyclones are eager to continue their pursuit of a strong finish to the regular season.

The Cyclones’ combination of offensive depth and solid goaltending has them in prime position to make a run as they move closer to playoff time. With a mix of veterans and newcomers stepping up, this team is well-positioned for a strong finish.
