Listowel, Ont- The Cyclones (6-3-1) played both Friday & Sunday at the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena, picking up 2 wins.
Friday Oct. 25th the Sarnia Legionnaires (2-7-2) were in town. The Cyclones opened the scoring at 5:54 of the first period, Dylan Szymanowski scores his 3rd of the season assisted by Trenton Harris. At 12:56 Teague Vader takes a feed from Chris O’Flaherty to make it 2-0, Jordan Visneskie also picked up an assist. At 16:11 with the Cyclones on the powerplay, Vader would notch his second of the game to make it 3-0, O’Flaherty and Wylie Birkett pick up the assists.
22 seconds into the 2nd frame, the Legionnaires score to make it 3-1. They would strike again at 6:22 to make it a one goal game. With time winding down in the 2nd period the Cyclones would cash in on the powerplay again to regain the two goal lead. This time it was Mason Eurig, from O’Flaherty and Birkett at 19:55.
With the Cyclones leading 4-2, the Legionnaires would pull within one at 14:50, but that is as close as they would come as CycsNation picks up their 7th win of the season. Riley Arts gets the win in net, making 31 saves.
Friday’s attendance was 455.
Sunday October 27th the Cyclones faced the St. Thomas Stars. The Stars would strike early to make it 1-0 at the 0.42 second mark. At 6:01 the Stars took advantage of a Cyclone turnover scoring shorthanded to go up by 2. Teagean Middleton would then turn the tide as he stepped up on the blue line with a big open ice hit. Nick Glanville took exception to the hit challenging Middleton to some fisticuffs. Middleton answered the bell getting the best of Glanville and sparking the Cyclone offense. At 13:53 the Cycs would draw within 1, Camden McNevan scored his 5th of the season with Brandon Scott and Keaton Middleton assisting.
Birkett with his 4th of the season, unassisted, would even the score at 2-2 0.35 seconds into the 2nd period. The Stars would get one more at the 5:27 mark of the 2nd, before the Cyclones really turned up the offence. Listowel defenceman Benson Moore gets his 2nd goal of the season to tie it at 3, Aidan Renaud and McNevan draw assists. At 13:02 McNevan would notch his 2nd of the game on the powerplay with Eurig and Jack O’Donnell getting the helpers.
With the Cyclones up 4-3 going into the 3rd the flood gates would open as they added 5 unanswered goals on route to a 9-3 win. Getting his first goal of the season, Harris scores at 4:16 from Vader and Keaton Middleton. Tate Brenner, Renaud, O’Donnell, and Harrison Meulensteen would all tally their 3rd of the season to round out the scoring. Scott-2, Eurig, Carter Coombs, Meulensteen, Visneskie, Colton Henderson, and Vader would all add assists, and Riley Arts gets the win in front of 256 at the SKMC.
The 4 points puts the Cyclones in 6th place in the West Conference, but only 3 points behind 2ndplace Stratford, with 2 games in hand.
NEXT ACTION: The Cyclones travel to Brantford on Thursday for a Halloween matchup at 7:30 against the Titans, before they return to the Steve Kerr Memorial Arena, Friday November 1st for a home tilt with the Cambridge Redhawks at 7:30. Come out and support your Cyclones!
