The Listowel Cyclones Junior Hockey Club would like to announce the retirement of Wayne Long as President of the hockey club. Wayne has been with the club for the last 18 years, starting as an executive member and then taking on the roles of GM and then President. In that time frame the club won their second Cherrey Cup and their first ever Sutherland Cup. Wayne has had a long history with the club, playing 2 years for the Jr C club, winning a divisional championship and then for the first Jr B club in 1979-80. With his retirement we are very happy to announce the following changes.
Greg McNevan will take over as President of the hockey club. Greg with his wife Tasha, and children Camden, Hudson and Alexa, reside outside of Listowel. Greg grew up in the Harriston area, played Jr. C Hockey in Brussels, and played 10 years of Senior hockey in Palmerston. He has coached all of his kids over the years, was a member of the Wallace Minor Hockey Executive, and is currently President of the Maitland Ice Sharks spring hockey organization.
Trent McClement will be taking over the position of General Manager. Trent and his wife Cate reside in Moorefield, they have a 2 year old daughter Haven, and a 6 week old son Callan. Trent played his minor hockey in Palmerston, before playing Jr. for the Cyclones, and Mt. Forest Patriots. He also played Sr. for the Palmerston 81’s. Trent brings with him a wealth of Jr. hockey experience and connections through his years of coaching. Trent was Head Coach of the Mt. Forest Patriots for 3 years, winning the league championship each year, and one coach of the year award. He then moved to the GOJHL as Head Coach of the St. Marys Lincolns for 4 years, winning Coach of the Year for the 2019-2020 season. Trent came over to the Cyclones last year as an Asst. Coach, and this season was in the role of Asst. GM.
Jesse Cole will remain as Head Coach, he has been with the Cyclones for 7 years, winning the Cherrey Cup and Sutherland Cup in 2017-2018. Jesse was Asst. Coach for 2 seasons, GM for 3 seasons, and the last 2 seasons has been the Head Coach and GM.
Randy Petrie will also remain as the Head of Hockey Operations. He has been with the club for the past 5 years, which included 3 years as Ass’t GM.
We would like to thank Wayne for all that he has done for the club over the years and wish him and his family all the best.
Yours In Hockey,
