LISTOWEL, ON- With the regular season winding down, the Listowel Cyclones are making a strong push to secure their place in the GOJHL playoffs. Sitting fifth in the Western Conference and eighth overall in the league, the Cyclones are in the thick of the playoff race, and their recent performances suggest they have what it takes to finish strong.
Over the last four games, Listowel has shown both resilience and firepower, picking up two crucial wins and battling hard in a pair of close losses. A commanding 4-1 victory over Strathroy on January 24 set the tone, but the January 26 Battle of 86 against Elmira ended in heartbreak, with the Cyclones falling 6-5 in a high-scoring thriller. They followed that with a tough 4-3 loss to Kitchener-Waterloo on January 31, but bounced back in a gritty 2-1 win over Komoka on February 1 to keep pace in the standings.
Now, all eyes are on another Battle of 86 this Friday, February 7, as the Elmira Sugar Kings roll into town for a 7:30 p.m. showdown at Steve Kerr Memorial Arena. With playoff implications on the line, expect a fired-up Cyclones squad looking for redemption after their last meeting with Elmira.
With their postseason fate still in their hands, the Cyclones will need to bring their best in the home stretch. The intensity is ramping up, and Friday night’s matchup could be a defining moment in their push for the playoffs.
